Why does my dog growl when I pet him?

 


Dogs feel threatened when they are in a confined space, for example, in a crate. They also growl when unfamiliar people or dogs approach them. Dogs that are yelled at or disciplined will often growl as well. Dogs growl when they are afraid of something.
