Why are dogs protective of babies?

 



Dogs are some of the most protective animals that we know. A study conducted by two professors concluded that dogs can sense fear and even know when a person is lying. There are many different reasons why dogs and other animals might be protective of children. Dogs, for example, might see children as their pack.

This could have led to a change in social structure among wolves and later on with dogs so they were willing to protect any child who would allow it. Another reason is based on a human instinct called «the maternal instinct,» which is often seen in animals too including dogs.

Dogs may bark and growl when they see a stranger, but their main concern is for the safety of their owners. It’s not unusual for dogs to be protective of children who are familiar to them. Harry Harlow conducted his experiment on maternal deprivation in rhesus monkeys Children are often adorable, cuddly, or cute these qualities trigger an instinctual response in most dogs which motivates them to protect them from potentially dangerous situations.
