After exercising, dogs need to pant to cool down their body temperature. The act of panting is the most common way for dogs to regulate their body temperature. Dogs will usually pant for about 10 minutes after exercise, but sometimes it can be up to 20 minutes depending on what they are doing. Dogs usually pant to cool off. After exercise, most dogs will need to pant for a few minutes to allow their body temperature to return back to its normal level. Usually, dogs who are used to being in a controlled environment will have a lower breathing rate than when they are in an adrenaline rush.
